Experiencing life and using our senses

Popcorn Sensory Observations

North Valley Academy has an amazing all day Kindergarten program. Recently they did a lesson to explore and understand all five of their senses. Mrs. Rogers used popcorn as an everyday real world example in this lesson. The students explored the sense of hearing, listening for the different sounds as the popcorn was popped. Students looked at the popcorn in different ways observing the color, the size, and what it does as it pops. Students smelt the popcorn, tasted the popcorn, and felt the popcorn. At North Valley Academy we educate the students in all ways. We teach more than just Math and English. We help students to learn about life, love learning, and to have new experiences.

Wrapping up and Gearing Up!

This is the first of many North Valley Academy blog posts. As principal this year I am excited to help lead this group of amazing people to providing a strong rigorous education for students who choose to come here. North Valley Academy is ready for an exciting year. We have a few new staff that we are excited to welcome to our school this year.  We welcome Mr. Barnes who will be teaching math, Mrs. Winton who will be teaching Orchestra, Mrs. Stephenson who will be home room for the sixth grade and teaching 4 – 6 English, and Mrs. Rogers who will be teaching Kindergarten. We are excited to begin a brand new year with students on September 5th. Students might be starting this upcoming Tuesday, but teachers have been working long and hard this summer to gear up for a great school year. We have made great additions and updates to the building.

These teachers took some time to relax and enjoy good food and good company as we wrapped up our professional development training. The staff was able to get together with their families and we have a few photos to celebrate that time. We wrapped up our professional development with a health and nutrition training, before gearing up with our back to school night. We have new students and returning students. School supplies are filling the classrooms. A huge thank you to the staff at NVA for making our school not only look great, but be great. I appreciate all the families that were able to make it out to the back to school night. This staff is ready for students and we are excited to create lasting memories and life experiences here at North Valley Academy.
